Biography
Kaylea Berard joined the 黑料社区 faculty in 2008. She studied Spanish, Art, and Business Studies at the State University of New York at Geneseo and earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from Georgetown University. With a theoretical and applied linguistics background, she teaches SPAN 216: Introducci贸n a la ling眉铆stica hisp谩nica (offered every other year), coordinates multi-section Spanish language courses at the beginning and intermediate levels, and is responsible for the Spanish placement. A member of the Accessibility Leadership Committee (ALC) since its creation in 2014, she takes an active role in increasing accessibility on campus. She organizes workshops on the use of Universal Design for Learning and the use of visual aids in the university classroom. During her most recent in-person workshop, 鈥淭he Effective Use of Visual Aids in the University Classroom鈥 (Clute International Conference on Education - Technology Track: 2019), attended by university faculty from a variety of different disciplines, she presented a series of her own visual aids used to facilitate the acquisition of late-acquired linguistic items and structures and established guidelines for the creation of novel visual aids for any field. She is currently working on a web-based game used to promote collaboration among students with different academic interests.
