Biography

Marcia Martin received her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania, and her PhD from ºÚÁÏÉçÇø’s GSSWSR. Early in her career, she worked in child welfare and community mental health where she directed children's services. During her over forty-years at the GSSWSR, she served as a faculty member, associate dean and director of field education, and dean, regularly teaching Clinical Social Work. Since her retirement, she has continued to teach Theoretical Perspectives in Social Work and Assessment and Psychopathology Across the Lifespan. In addition, she has worked as a curriculum consultant at the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center and taught in Penn’s clinical doctoral program where she directed several dissertations. She has served on many Council on Social Work Education committees as well as non-profit and independent school boards. Her research interests have focused on skill-based training and transfer of learning in child welfare practice, employment settings as practicum sites, mutual accountability in supervision, and caregiving within the context of chronic and terminal illness. She is an avid hiker of the White Mountains and currently is writing a piece on the lessons learned on those trails.
