Biography

Marissa Golden鈥檚 research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of American Politics, Public Policy and Public Administration. She is particularly interested in policymaking by the 鈥4th branch鈥 of government, and by the institutional relationships between the unelected 鈥4th branch鈥 and it鈥檚 elected bosses.

She is the author of What Motivates Bureaucrats? Politics and Administration during the Reagan Years (Columbia University Press, 2000) as well as numerous book chapters and articles about federal regulatory policymaking, the administrative presidency, the role of the career civil service in the American political system, and community organizing in the educational arena.

She teaches courses on American Politics, the Policymaking Process, Education Politics and Policy, and Public Administration.

She started her career as an analyst at the United States Department of Energy and, more recently, served a four-year term as an elected School Board Director in the Lower Merion School District. She has also played a leadership role at 黑料社区, serving as Chair of the Faculty from 2020-2022 and is currently a member of the Board of the Narberth Community Food Bank. She is an avid tennis player and has a 22-year-old daughter.
